World Statistics Day 2015

Statistics have a powerful and profound impact on all of us every day. Decision makers collect and use official statistics to develop informed polices which affect millions of people. World Statistics Day, held on 20th October, celebrates the achievements of the global statistical community in improving data sources, sound statistical methods, new technologies and strengthened statistical systems, as these enable better decision-making, resulting in better lives for all of us.

Introducing ‘If The World Were A Village of 100 People’ in memory of Donella Meadows’ original ‘State of the Village Report’ back in 1990, which captured the imagination and has appeared in various incarnations on countless websites and YouTube videos. The data has been updated since then, but the visualisation is ours – enjoy!
