Londoners who try to travel on the Tube without a valid ticket risk a hefty penalty, a criminal record—and now—Star Wars spoilers.
London Underground employees are creatively using the force to clamp down on fare dodgers. Passengers at Canonbury station were warned to pay their fare or risk being told spoilers from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The message on the station’s whiteboard read: “Attention. Anyone caught travelling without a valid ticket or Oyster will be told the ending to the new Star Wars. (and also get a Penalty Fare).”

Mike Stubbs, Director of London Overground, told Quartz: “We hope that the humorous and topical notice has brought a smile to people’s faces, as well as reminding customers that you must have a valid ticket to travel on the TfL [Transport for London] network!”
It’s also clear that many Tube workers are huge fans of Star Wars, as quotes from the franchise have been scrawled on a number of station whiteboards in the run up to the release of The Force Awakens.
The latest installment of the blockbuster franchise is already breaking records: it had the highest single-day ticket sales on opening night in a number of countries, including the US ($120.5 million), UK, Germany, Australia, and Brazil.
