Amazon turns handyman and babysitter

Amazon’s technology chief, Werner Vogel described the firm as “a 20-year-old startup” and you wouldn’t question that considering Amazon’s diverse business portfolio. Amazon has added a new service into it’s basket: Amazon Home Services, a marketplace to connect customers with nearby plumbers, gardeners and babysitters in several American cities. My guess for Amazon’s next move is real-estate listings that will intertwine perfectly with the current service.

Amazon evaluates the businesses after doing thorough background checks and has different tiers of commissions for these service providers. Amazon claims that if a customer finds the same service at a lower price, it is ready to match that. The new Amazon Home Services will presumably let consumers search for free. The offers will contextually display to shoppers buying, for example, an air conditioning unit or baby accessories. With this service, Amazon is taking a leap to compete in the on-demand economy with players like Craigslist and Groupon.

Cities Amazon Home Services will now cover key cities across America.
