Exclusive With Neil deGrasse Tyson

Jeremy Katz and the ogilvydo team grabbed a smartphone when they stumbled across astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson in the Speakers Lounge at Cannes Lions.  Just after his Ogilvy & Inspire presentation, he took the time to chat with Jeremy on geeks becoming the new rockstars, restoring our innovation culture, his (as he put it) “unorthodox” views on sustainability. Listen in.

To me, “geek” will always be a vile insult and I am dismayed to see the techies have adopted this term to identify themselves. The geek is the carnival “wildman” who bites off a chicken’s head and drinks its blood. The lowest fate to which one might sink. I have no problem with “nerd” but “geek” makes me cringe. But I am old-school for sure.
